LIVING GLOVES

Following her release from Ravensbruck prison camp at the end of World War II, Corrie ten Boom traveled the world sharing God’s love. In one message, she held up a glove—loose, limp, and lifeless. Waving it around, she described how the glove could do nothing. Then she placed her hand in the glove, and suddenly it sprang to life. The glove was able to wave, shake hands and pick up items. The glove wasn’t alive, but because Corrie’s living hand filled it, the glove took on her life.

Before experiencing salvation in Christ, like an empty glove, we were lifeless. Then Jesus entered our heart, and filled us with his Spirit, transforming us from death to life. Romans 8:11 states, “He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” Because of his presence, we possess His supernatural power to overcome our addictions and also help those around us.

This is the most wonderful thought I can imagine! The Almighty Creator of everything, the Eternal One, the King of Kings, actually lives in me! If there’s something more amazing than this, please tell me! Seriously, I want to know! Paul thought so. In Colossians 1:27 he proclaimed, “God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” The fulfillment of God’s eternal plan; the mystery hidden for ages, culminates in this one truth: Christ lives in you.

This isn’t a “one and done” phenomenon. Ephesians 5:18 tells us to “be filled with the Spirit.” Every day of our lives, we open our hearts to an infinite God to continually possess and control us more and more.

Think of the implications. If you know Jesus, then you are a walking, talking, living, breathing transporter of God. Everywhere you go, God is there—because He lives in you! Every time you pass through the doors of your work site, grocery store, and gas station or drive through your neighborhood, you bring the presence of Jesus. It’s almost unfathomable to understand what an amazing honor and blessing this is.

Embrace this identity. Step into this reality. Live out this destiny. Jesus has chosen to live his life through you. When we get this, our lives will never be the same.

Principle: The Holy Spirit lives in believers, giving us new life.

Ponder:

  • When have you experienced the Spirit of God working in your life?

  • How can the presence of Jesus help you experience hope in times of despair?

Pursue: For a deeper dive, study Romans 8:5-17.

Lord Jesus, I open my heart to you. Come take possession of my life and live in me.
