FORREST GUMP MOMENTS

Imagine heading out for your morning swim, and finding yourself on the runway of a fashion show. That was the experience of an Australian man named David last week, who accidentally crashed a fashion show at Tamarama Beach near Sidney.

Without realizing what was happening, David walked down the stairs to the beach, and stepped onto the runway. As models strutted just a few feet away, he then did some stretches, removed his shirt, and took a dip in the ocean. You can imagine the stir his faux pas has created on social media. David has become quite the star. (Source: PeopleMagazine.com, May 13, 2026)

Can anyone relate to David’s plight? For better or worse, we’ve all walked into some awkward situations—like Forrest Gump who just “happened” to stumble into history-making events. But followers of Jesus, realize most of those aren’t accidents. God guides us, as we muddle our way through life. We don’t just “happen” to show up at “fashions shows.” Our All-Seeing God leads us. Psalm 23:3 states, “He guides along right paths.”

Think about it. Ruth just “happened” to glean in a field owned by Boaz, and he just “happened” to show up at that moment. Sparks flew, ultimately leading to the birth of both King David and Jesus.

A slave caravan just “happened” to be passing by when Joseph’s brothers were planning on murdering him. As a result, he became the ruler of Egypt.

Philip listened to the Holy Spirit, and just “happened” to arrive at the intersection of two roads the precise moment a chariot was passing by, and the gospel spread to Ethiopia.

Even during our most embarrassing “Forrest Gump” moments, thank God he is guiding and directing us, bringing blessings out of our blunders. And that’s especially true, if we find ourselves in the middle of a fashion show.

Ponder:

  • What “Forrest Gump moments” have you experienced?

  • How has God used some of these for his purposes?

Pursue: For a deeper dive, study Acts 8:26-40.

Lord, thank you for those “Forrest Gump moments.” Help me trust you when I find myself in those situations.
