1000 DAYS. ONE FAITHFUL GOD

Don’t ask me why, but a few weeks back, in a curious moment, I calculated the number of days since Linda passed. As it turns out, today (06/26/26), marks exactly 1000 days. I guess I’m feeling a bit pensive today, as I contemplate the frailty of life.

Time passes so quickly. The Bible records, “You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes (James 4:14) … “Mortals born of woman, are few of days, and full of trouble (Job 14:1) … “People are like grass...the grass withers and the flowers fall” (1 Peter 1:24). And don’t forget, “All we are is dust in the wind” (from the iconic rock group Kansas).

While Dust in the Wind doesn’t compare to scripture, it possesses some lyrics worth considering. “I close my eyes, only for a moment and the moment's gone. All my dreams, pass before my eyes with curiosity. Dust in the wind. All they are is dust in the wind … “Just a drop of water in an endless sea. All we do, crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see” … “Nothin' lasts forever but the earth and sky.”

There’s truth in those lyrics—if we take God out of the picture. Without Jesus, life is purposeless, powerless, and pointless—like dust in the wind. But when we add Him to the equation, everything changes. It’s like we’ve been eking out an existence in a black-and-white world, and suddenly we’re living in technicolor.

That’s why I can truthfully say, I’m not just surviving after 1000 days—I’m thriving. Sure, I’m sad some days, but Jesus fills my heart with hope and purpose. And I know, whether it’s 1000 days from now, or 1000 years, I’ll continue to thrive. If you want to discover how you too can thrive in the midst of heartache, contact me.

Ponder:

  • What circumstances in life have caused you to reflect on the frailty and transitory nature of life?

  • What has God shared with you during those times?

Pursue: For a deeper dive, study Job 14:1-6.

Dear Jesus, thank you for your presence during my darkest days. Thank you for sustaining me with your hope, and strengthening me with your power.
